FROM THE DIRECTOR; October 2022

You are invited to support Brookline’s older adults through our Autumn Benefit (without the
gala). COVID‐19 and all its variants have again stopped the gathering, but not the Senior Center’s
work! In fact, we are doing more than ever, and the needs are greater as social isolation continues to
take its toll on our vulnerable older adults. We need your support to offset our urgent needs in
transportation, technology, and social services.
I want to thank all who made donations in memory of our beloved Agnes Rogers. A special
acknowledgment to Bay State Federal Charitable Foundation for their generous donation and kind
words. Included with their donation was the following note:
“This donation is in memory of Agnes Rogers’ amazing life, personal commitment, and dedication to the
Senior Community of Brookline. ‘No Senior Left Behind’ was her mantra, with a smile, a twinkle in her eye,
and the Lordʹs Grace in her heart.”
Agnes and Bay State Federal Charitable Foundation’s late CEO, Jack Murphy, had a special bond.
I can clearly see them both waltzing together and having such fond memories of their friendship.
I would also like to mention other ways you can support the Brookline Senior Center: On
Thursday, November 10 from 1:00‐6:00 pm, the Senior Center will host the annual Holiday Craft
Fair. The Fair will feature a variety of items for sale by our senior crafters, “boutique” items, and
available items from the Senior Center Etsy site‐Brookline Bazaar (see p. 31 of the October 2022 Newsletter).
For 24/7 shopping, visit our Etsy shop at www.etsy.com/shop/brooklinebazaar to view our
diverse collection of antique and vintage treasures and collectibles from around the globe. All shop
proceeds support the Brookline Senior Center. Please save the date and show your support by
purchasing fabulous gift items.

I urge all of our readers to get a flu vaccine and COVID booster. These are important
preventative health measures and are easy to obtain. The Senior Center will be hosting a flu clinic on
Tuesday, November 1 from 9:00 am‐1:00 (see p.1 of the October 2022 Newsletter for more details).
October is always one of my favorite months to enjoy the outdoors. The weather is glorious and
the trees wear brilliant autumn colors of scarlet, yellow, and orange. Enjoy the last days of the
Farmer’s Market by buying juicy apples or festive pumpkins.

P.S. A warm welcome to our new student intern, M, who is joining us as a graduate social work
intern from Simmons.
